Special Olympics Bowling and Swimming

IMG_0620

Auburn Civitans support Lee County (and nearby communities) Special Olympics programs. In early March, the bowling meet was at the AMF Bowling Company in Auburn. In mid–March the swim meet was at the Opelika Sportsplex & Aquatics Center

Civitans cheered, smiled, hugged, and enjoyed the competitors, and provided snacks for everyone. We also provide bowling ramps for those who need help launching the heavy balls!

Flags Fly for Presidents Day

Flag and Samford Flags were flying in downtown Auburn for Presidents Day, February 18, 2019.

The City of Auburn added flag holders to eight more light poles, bringing our total to 115 in downtown Auburn.

This project is a partnership of the Auburn Civitan Club, the Downtown Merchants Association, and the City of Auburn.

Helen Brown celebrated her 100th birthday at her church, the First Baptist Church of Auburn, on February 17, 2019. Her birthday is actually February 26, but we couldn’t wait.

Helen has been an active member of the Auburn Civitan Club since 1985, serving as President, Board member, Chaplain, and chair and member of just about every civic and service project the Club has.

Helen has received a number of Civitan awards over the years, including Auburn Civitan of the Year, Civitan International Research Fellow, and Medallion Member (she received her 25 Years Award in 2010).

Billy Kennedy speaks!

At our January 15 monthly meeting, our own Billy Kennedy spoke about his work on our District committee and what is going on with the District. Our District includes a number of clubs that are all doing some important civic work and service projects. We are honored to have one of our own members serving on this committee.
